Julia Farr Youth Mentoring

In 2009 the JFM Fund funded leadership development of mentors for Julia Farr Youth Mentoring, a peer-to-peer support program for young people with disability between the ages of 11 and 18 who were mentored by other young people between the ages of 18 and 30 years with disability.

About the grant

The outcomes achieved during the establishment phase of Julia Farr Youth Mentoring included:

  • The scoping of other mentoring programs and gathering best practice mentoring information
  • Development of peer mentoring methodology
  • Creation of a number of peer mentor relationships
  • Increased capacity of mentees

In July 2010 the first mentor/mentee relationship commenced. In 2012 Julia Farr Youth Mentoring received funding for an additional three years from the Department of Education and Child Development to expand the program supporting students with disability across Metropolitan Adelaide.

Julia Farr Youth Mentoring has since evolved into EYDN (Enabled Youth Disability Network) and continues to operate under the auspices of JFA Purple Orange, with support from the Australian Government Department of Social Services.
